Bangladesh Institute of Glass & Ceramics (BIGC) was founded on March 11, 1951. This is the only institute of its kind in Bangladesh which aggrandizes the ceramic industry of the country. BIGC undertakes different courses to enrich the glass and ceramics sector of Bangladesh. Bangladesh Institute of Glass & Ceramics is situated at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Avenue in Tejgaon, Dhaka.
During inception, the institute named 'East Bengal Ceramic Institute'. In 1960, it renamed as 'East Pakistan Institute of Glass and Ceramics'. After the Independence in 1971, the institute named as 'Bangladesh Institute of Glass & Ceramics (BIGC)'.
Currently, Bangladesh Institute of Glass & Ceramics has two departments namely Glass Technology, and Ceramic Technology. BIGC offers 4-year Glass and Ceramic Engineering Courses. It has collaboration and affiliation with Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB). BIGC runs under the control of Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Ministry of Education (MOE). Bangladesh Institute of Glass & Ceramics' current Principal is Mr. Md. Shamshad Khalil.
